WORLD OCEANS DAY

June 8 is World Oceans Day, the United Nations day for celebrating the role of the oceans in our everyday life and inspiring action to protect the ocean and sustainably use marine resources. And create awareness of what man is doing to the oceans.……and here is one of the logos being used to depict a happy whale enjoying a pristine environment…..”having a whale of a time.”

Did you know? The ocean produces at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen. The ocean is key to the global economy with an estimated 40 million people being employed by ocean-based industries by 2030. The ocean absorbs about 30% of carbon dioxide produced by humans, giving us a buffer against the impacts of global warming.

Some interesting facts:
The ocean comprises about 70 percent of the earth’s surface.
The ocean is home to 94 percent of life on earth.
The ocean regulates earth’s climate.

So are we safeguarding the oceans? No we are not, we are destroying them. Did you know that:

An estimated 8 Million tons of plastic enters our oceans every year.
There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic waste estimated to be in our oceans.
These floating pollutants weigh approximately 269,000 tons.
There are 4 billion microfibers per km² lurking below the surface.
70 percent of our debris sinks into the ocean’s ecosystem, 15% floats, and 15% lands on our beaches.

We at Filcon Filters are keenly aware of this problem and today being World Oceans Day, we just want to draw your attention to the problem. We are doing our bit by distributing filtration products to ensure that only clean water is discharged into our rivers and oceans.
