On 1st May 2016 Werner Baumann was made CEO of Bayer and on 24th May 2016 Bayer made its intentions clear that it wanted to team up with Monsanto with whom it had designed Agent Orange which killed millions of Vietnamese. And in June 2018 the marriage was consummated and then the chickens started coming home to roost with US courts handing down huge settlements to cancer victims. It is inconceivable that Werner Bauman went ahead with the takeover knowing what was before the courts. And now a third U.S. jury verdict has found Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer to be a cause of people’s cancer and poor old Werner has to contend with shareholder anger as the share price has dropped from EUR101 to EUR52 and market cap has halved from around EUR100 billion to EUR50 billion.

Roundup is the brand name of a systemic, broad-spectrum glyphosate-based herbicide originally produced by Monsanto and subsequently acquired by Bayer.
